How does Email in Focus protect me from spam?
We use an authentication process that allows certain emails to be passed through. If a sender who is not on your "Approved List" tries to send you an email, we will send a challenge (authentication) message back to that sender. The sender must verify that he is a real human being and not an automated system used by most spammers. Once he is verified, he will be added to your "Approved List" and may send you emails without any further delay. Back to top
What must my friend do to authenticate himself when he sends me an email?
In the challenge message that our system sends back to any unknown senders, it will tell the sender, in a friendly way, that you are no longer accepting spam messages and asks them to 1) Click a link that takes them to a special web page where they are shown a word that has been slightly distorted graphically. 2) Then they are asked to type that word into a box on the web page. Humans can read the graphical word but computers and automated systems cannot. Therefore, spammers who use automated processes cannot follow these simple instructions. Back to top
My friend only has access to email, not the Internet.
In the event that your friend does not, or cannot, authenticate himself, our easy-to-use Members area will allow you to view the email addresses of unauthenticated people who have emailed you over the past 6 days. From there, you can easily authenticate your friend by yourself. Back to top
What if a spammer authenticates himself?
In the rare event that a spammer does authenticate himself, you have two options. 1) Block him in your "Rejected List" in the members area or 2) Block him using the "Blocked Senders List" of your own email program. Email programs like Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, etc. have integrated abilities to block certain email addresses. This isn't a good way to fight spam since most spammers never use the same email address twice, but if a spammer does use a legitimate email address and he does authenticate himself, you can use this integrated feature of your email program to easily block them forevermore. Can I add someone to, or take someone off of my Approved or Rejected lists?
Absolutely! From our easy-to-use members area, you can view and edit your "Approved List", your "Pending List", and your "Rejected List". Back to top
Can I still receive email from automated senders, like eBay, Amazon, or other online companies?
Yes! If you are expecting an email from a company that uses automated mailing systems, you can watch for their email address in your "Pending List" in the members area and approve them with a single click. Back to top
Is there a delay in receiving my mail with the Email in Focus protection?
Our servers check for new messages continuously throughout the day. Depending on the volume of email being received, you should expect a delay of no more than 2-3 minutes. Back to top
Do I have to change my email address?
Absolutely not! Email in Focus protects your existing email address. You do NOT have to change your email address, or even notify your Internet Service Provider. Back to top
What kinds of email addresses can Email in Focus protect?
If you are using a POP-enabled email program (such as Outlook Express, Netscape, Outlook, Pocomail, Eudora, etc.), we can protect your email address. This includes Hotmail. If you have a Yahoo or other web-based email address that does not give you POP access, you must subscribe to their premium program that allows POP access to your account. If you are using the email address given to you by your Internet Service Provider, we can probably protect it.
Email in Focus currently works with all POP3 email providers, PLUS Hotmail and MSN. We are currently working on a solution for Juno and AOL addresses. Back to top
Is there any software to download or install?
Absolutely not! Email in Focus does not sell software that you need to download, install, or configure. We operate servers that process your email "behind the scenes", so you never need to install a program on your computer. The only configuration that is required is to set up your account in our easy-to-use members area, and update your own email program with our server information. It's easy to do, and we have manuals that will walk you through it step-by-step. Back to top
Will Email in Focus work on my computer?
Actually, we do not work anything on your computer. Our work is done behind the scenes in the world of email servers. As long as you are using a POP-enabled email program (such as Outlook Express, Netscape, Outlook, Pocomail, Eudora, etc.) you can use our service. Or if you require web-based access (such as what Hotmail and Yahoo provide) you can check your email on the web. Back to top
Why isn't this type of spam protection more popular?
While you are reading this answer, this technology is growing in popularity. Until the past couple years, junk email has never been this bad. It's getting worse and worse, and as the junk email gets worse (both in volume and in content), our technology grows in popularity. We believe that people have no choice but to use this type of service to keep them spam-free. Back to top
How much does it cost?
Email in Focus protection costs only $24.95 per year. That's less than 7 cents per day for spamless serenity! Back to top
